On the 28th of March 2017, Tropical Cyclone Debbie struck the Whitsundays.
At Category Four, it was labelled the most dangerous cyclone to impact Queensland since 2011.
Debbie affected almost the entire East Coast of Australia, and the Whitsundays, including Hamilton Island, bore the brunt of Debbie’s high speed winds and heavy rain.
When Debbie passed over the island almost 24 hours later, resort recovery began and on the 8th of May, we welcomed our first guests back to the apartments.
During repairs and clean up, the entire WAHI team worked tirelessly to restore all operations back to normal.
The West tower is open and fully operational, with the East tower scheduled to reopen late June.
We are now taking new bookings from the 1st of July onwards.
