In a place where pristine white sand stretches for kilometres and beautiful fish delight in the calm turquoise waters, it’s no mystery how Whitehaven Beach got its name.
It’s been voted Australia’s most beautiful beach and number three in the world by TripAdvisor users, and is undoubtedly one of the most tranquil places you can visit.
Whitehaven Beach is world-famous for its 7km stretch of impeccably bright sand. The sand is 98% pure silica (which is conveniently ideal for polishing jewellery) and is a truly magical sight.
The clear waters are perfect for snorkelling and the sand doesn’t have the same heat-retaining qualities as regular sand, so you can enjoy a leisurely stroll barefoot without burning your feet.
For the best view, take a walk up to Tongue Point or Hill Inlet. The colours of the water and sand merge together like a watercolour painting and you’re bound to snap some postcard perfect photos. You might even spot some sea turtles or stingrays through the crystal clear water.
When your half a day trip comes to an end, you’re left with a distinct feeling that it hasn’t been long enough. Whitehaven Beach is a paradise you could imagine yourself staying in forever.
You can get to Whitehaven Beach by boat or by helicopter. Explore – Hamilton Island offer a range of sailing and snorkelling tours that include Whitehaven Beach or with Hamilton Island Air, land at the beach in style.
