They say it’s all about the journey and not just the destination. When it comes to travelling around the island, we couldn’t agree more! For many of the thousands of people that travel here each year, getting the chance to cruise around on a golf buggy is one of the highlights of their holiday.
Besides having a seriously-stylish set of wheels to get you to your next holiday activity, there are plenty of reasons why these four-seaters are worth all the hype. At WAHI, we’ve spent more than our fair share of hours zipping around on buggies and we’ve put together our top five reasons why you should consider hiring one during your stay too.
Top five reasons to hire a golf buggy while you’re staying at WAHI:
1. When else can you say a golf buggy was your main form of transport?
London has red double-decker buses, Thailand has tuk-tuks and Italy has Gondolas. When anyone visits these places, getting the chance to ride the local form of transport is a bucket-list item. Riding a golf buggy on the island is no different! In fact, these unique wheels have actually become a must-do activity for pretty much anyone that travels here. This sense of excitement and uniqueness means from the moment you jump on board, you’ll really feel like you’re in holiday mode.

2. Explore the island at your own pace
Whether you’re looking for adrenaline-inducing activities or something a little more relaxed and scenic, the island offers a whole selection of experiences to suit every age and interest. There are plenty of walking tracks and a shuttle bus to get you to where you need to be, but nothing quite compares to the freedom and flexibility of being able to explore the island at your own pace. Hiring your own golf buggy also means you can venture away from the more popular locations to find some of the island’s hidden secrets.

3. The kids will love it!
There is something oh-so-special about heading off with your family in a golf buggy and it’s always a hit with the kids too. Unlike the challenge of getting your little ones into the car and keeping them entertained while you drive at home, you’ll have the youngest members of your family practically begging to come along for the ride - even if you’re just popping down to pick up some supplies from IGA.
Each golf buggy is also fitted with seat belts and handrails to keep your kids protected and car seats are available for hire. Combined with the slow speed limits and normal road rules, it’s a great way to see the island with the whole family.
4. Be super eco-friendly
We are beyond lucky to have the Great Barrier Reef in our backyard, which is why we do everything we can to look after our local environment. As all buggies on the Island are electric-powered and don’t use any petrol, hiring your own buggy is a great way to play your part in protecting this World Heritage Listed site too. Simply plug your buggy in to charge overnight at the WAHI charge stations and you’ll have enough power to explore the island all day long.

5. Golf buggies are easy for anyone to drive
Buggies are super easy to drive and don’t require any training, which means that as long as you hold a current drivers license (and are a minimum of 21 years of age) you can simply slip behind the wheel and get going. The canopy and headlights also allow you to drive in comfort day or night.
At WAHI, we suggest pre-booking a golf buggy before you arrive to ensure you can secure your own set of wheels for your entire stay. Buggies are available to hire from buggy rentals, located a few hundred meters down the road from the Whitsunday Apartments. If you wish to reserve a buggy, please request your buggy here.
