The great Whitehaven Beach Run is one of the best ‘great runs’ in the world, and it’s happening again next month right here in the Whitsundays! So if you’re tackling it this year, here’s our tips on getting ready for the big race!
Tapering
Whether you’re tackling the Half Marathon, 10km, 5km 1.5km or 500m, by the time you get to Hamilton Island, most of your training has been done. However, getting the blood flowing through your legs with a light jog or walk in the days leading up to the race is vitally important. Luckily, there’s plenty of jogging tracks, beaches and hikes all around Hamilton Island to get you moving and in the best possible condition to race!
Relaxation
The hard work is done, all you need to focus on now is getting yourself to the starting line and running your race. So in the days leading up to the event, take the time to enjoy your surrounds and let yourself relax – you deserve it after all! Take a dip in our pool and heated spa, or enjoy a drink on your very own balcony overlooking Catseye Beach. However you like to relax, you’ll be sure to find it here at WAHI.
Dinner
Hamilton Island is known for its views, it’s beaches, and of course, it’s dining, with no shortage of 5 star restaurants to ensure you’re well fed and full of the right energy on the night before the big race. In fact, with so many delights to uncover, it’s best to ask us – the locals - about where to go!
Breakfast
Here’s where your WAHI apartment really comes into its own. With a proper kitchen in each apartment, putting together a decent breakfast on the morning of the race is easy! The local IGA is just a short stroll away too, so you can stock up on healthy goodies before you head off (and not to healthy goodies for when you get back). Our ‘pro’ pre-race breaky tip; Smashed banana and honey on multi-grain bread. Yum! The Great Whitehaven Beach Run is held on Sunday June 23rd.
